CLeaR Fellows 2019 – Hazim Namik

Exploring Canvas Blueprints and enabling flipped classrooms

Hazim NamikHazim is a Professional Teaching Fellow in Mechanical Engineering. Hazim got his BE in Mechatronics Engineering and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Auckland. Following a one-year post-doc position at UT Dallas, Hazim returned to the University of Auckland to teach large (800+) first and second year courses. In 2017, Hazim won the university award for early career excellence in teaching.

Hazim has two projects that he will focus on for the CleaR Fellowship — the first is Canvas Blueprints: In 2016 he developed a Canvas course template to be used for all of the courses offered by the faculty of engineering to ensure consistent student experience and that all courses have the minimum required information available to students. He believes Blueprints seems are a good option to centrally push out the course template with minimal effort. The second project deals with creating content for flipped classrooms, integrating these with Canvas, and trialling it in live courses in 2019. The aim is to improve student learning and engagement in lectures.
