CLeaR Fellows 2019 – Dr Mark McConnell

Enhancing student experience and success in COMLAW 101

Dr Mark McConnellMark McConnell is a Professional Teaching Fellow in the Department of Commercial Law (Business School). Mark’s career started as a construction contracts consultant and then senior lecturer in the Department of Public Administration and Law at the Robert Gordon University in Scotland where he developed a Masters in Construction Law and Arbitration. Mark has degrees in quantity surveying, law, theology and education, and a wide range of work experience in New Zealand, the UK and Canada. His current teaching responsibilities range from coordinating the first year commercial law course with 800+ students, to teaching on the MBA programme.

The focus of Mark’s plan for the fellowship is to look at how Canvas and plugin applications might be used to enhance student experience and success in COMLAW 101, with a particular focus on addressing student retention. In addition to, and in association with, this primary focus, he would also like to look as what steps might be taken, using the features and potential of Canvas, in preparation for transition to blended learning and a “flipped classroom” for COMLAW101.
