Critical Thinking, from MOOC to LOC

Dr Patrick GirardPatrick completed his Ph.D in Philosophy at Stanford University in 2008, specialising in Logic, and since then he has been a lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Auckland.

In collaboration with Tim Dare, Adrienne Moyle, Ashwini Datt and Folko Boermans, Patrick’s project was to take Philosophy’s general education paper Critical Thinking online. The project had two parts. In 2015, the team developed a MOOC version of the course with the FutureLearn platform: Logical and Critical Thinking

The second part was to expend the course with further course material, assessment and a Canvas environment. The outcome is the first Large Online Course (LOC) offered entirely online at the University of Auckland:
