CLeaR Fellows 2019 – Dr Sean Kerr

A study of the use of CANVAS’s collaboration tool incorporated into a Fine Arts Studio course

Dr Sean KerrSean is a Senior Lecturer at Elam School of Fine Arts. He is currently under taking further studies as a candidate for DOCFA and has a produced two books, Bruce is in the garden, so someone is in the garden, and Pop. Both were published by Clouds publishing. Sean’s plans for the fellowship are to create a test case study of the use of CANVAS’s collaboration tool incorporated into a Fine Arts Studio course and to see how this may improve student learning experience, teaching delivery and assessment. The aim is to utilize this web-based tool into our studio teaching so students can work collaboratively on tasks such as developing group ideas, sharing discussion note-taking and resolving logistical, material, and presentation issues. This will allow an easy place to keep track of the dialogue that surrounds the collaboration, and provide evidence of learning for examination. The goal is to set up a studio class that embraces a fine arts studio context and its tools while enabling technologies, processes and methods.
